Lake St. Croix Beach Ball Park: May 15, 2005 The captain's official game account: The St. Croix Base Ball Club opened its 2005 season against the Afton Red Socks with a win at the Lake St. Croix Beach field. An unusually cold and cloudy May day welcomed the two vintage clubs as they started the season. The Afton club won the toss and elected to strike first. After not scoring, the St. Croix’s pushed one run across in their half to take the lead. The Afton’s tied the contest with one in their second, but the St. Croix’s sent 12 to the plate in their second and tallied seven times to take a commanding lead. The Afton club never gave up, scoring another run in the third, and two in each the fifth and ninth. The St. Croix’s added four more the rest of the way and won the contest by the score of 12 to 6. Highlighted in the match was the strong fielding of center fielder Erik “Sugar” Sjogren and first baseman Jody “Sidewinder” Ebnet. The hitting of Quentin “Rock” Wittrock, Jeremy “Crooks” Larsen, and Brent “Skinny” Peterson helped secure the victory for the St. Croix’s. MORE 2005 game accounts. St. Croix vs. Cream City |
