The captain's official game account:

Cream City's of Milwaukee get a lesson in vintage base ball

On Saturday May 21st, the clouds were dark and rain seemed like a sure thing. The St. Croix's and Milwaukee Cream City's were hoping for a break in the weather so that the first match between the two clubs could take place.

At the old athletic field in Stillwater the clouds broke, sun poured out of the sky and the match began at 6:30 PM.

The St. Croix's won the toss and allowed the visiting club to strike first. The Cream City's, a new vintage club from Milwaukee had only hours before played their first match against another vintage club - the Quicksteps. Learning the game quickly, the Cream City's scored on ace in their first and took the early lead.

The St. Croix's, an experienced vintage base ball club, tallied for ten aces in their first and took a commanding lead. The Cream City's were not disheartened by the onslaught of aces that the St. Croix's tallied, and continued to play determined ball throughout the nine-inning contest.

The Cream City's tallied three times in their sixth and another in their eighth. This was not enough as the St. Croix's continued their fine hitting and running and tallied a total of 23 aces. The final being St. Croix's 23 and the Cream City's 5.

For the St. Croix's, Quentin "Rock" Wittrock tallied five aces and Dan "Basher" Cagley and Jody "Sidewinder" Ebnet tallied four aces each. Erik "Sugar" Sjogren had seven total bases and Don "Pieso" Hammer had five. The umpire for the match was the honorable Mr. Robert Tholkes and the tally keeper was Mr. Rich Arpi.

The Cream City's enjoyed their time in Stillwater and even put on an exhibition of vintage base ball at the Metrodome in Minneapolis with the Quicksteps. It is all hoped that the Cream City's will again return to the St. Croix Valley and cross bats with the St. Croix's in the future.
