St. Peter - August 24, 2008
The captain's official game account:
St. Croix's defeat St. Peter Nine
On a beautiful summer afternoon, the St. Croix Base Ball Club traveled down to the Minnesota River Valley and crossed bats wth a picked nine from the village of St. Peter.
The match was umpired by the respectable Mr. Robert Tholkes and the St. Peter captain won the calling of the stone toss and elected to have his men bat first. Although the entire St. Croix club was a bit stiff from the long ride to this part of the state, their defense withstood a couple hard hit balls and were able not to let any of the St. Peter base runners cross home base.
The St. Croix's then went to bat in their half of the first and tallied three times for a 3 to 0 lead after one inning.
The St. Peter club continued to hit the ball wth extreme hardness and tallied twice in their second but the St. Croix's tallied once in their half of the second. The third inning saw no scoring by either club, and the St. Croix's tallied four more times in their fourth, making the score of this match 8 to 2 in favor of the St. Croix's after four innings.
The St. Croix club continued some fine hitting but also some very observant base running helped them tally another two aces in their fifth, one in their sixth and three more times in their seventh to end their scoring.
The hard hitting St. Peter nine had some of their hits dropped in their seventh when they tallied twice and tallied another two times in their 8th mainly due to some miscues on the part of the St. Croix fielders.
The St. Peter club failed to tally in their ninth making the final score of the match St. Croix's 14 and St. Peter 6.
For the St. Croix Club Mr. Ebnet led the way with three tallies, with Mr. Robinson, Mr. Arpi, Mr. Cagley and Mr. Sjogren all tallying twice and Mr. Pfundstein, Mr. Peterson and Liberty all crossing home base once.

Mr. Pfundstein, of the St. Croix's, confers with umpire Mr. Tholkes before striking.

Mr. Pfundstein takes a mighty swing as the St. Peter behind, Mr. Leonard, looks on.
Mr. Ernst, at the bat, strikes the ball with his mighty strength.
