The captain's official game account:

St. Croix's defeat Mitchell, South Dakota club in Pipestone

The St. Croix Base Ball Club journeyed down to the southwest corner of the state of Minnesota and crossed bats with a young squad of ball players from Mitchell, South Dakota.

The South Dakota club was actually Boy Scout Troop #72 with many young, energetic and enthusiastic players that, even though didn't have much knowledge of the National Pastime as players, certainly made up for in athletic vim and vigor.

The match began with the scouts at the bat. The defense of the St. Croix's played incredibly well and even with two fill in players, Zach and Justin "Mini-J" Robinson, the fielders found ther stride early on.

The St. Croix's also found their hitting early in the match. The first inning saw the St. Croix's explode for five aces and added another two in their second. The Mitchell club found their way across the home base in their third by tallying three times and made another in their fourth and two more with some heavy hitting in their sixth.

The St. Croix's just continued to hit and run the bases as young boys in the middle of a lazy summer afternoon. They tallied in each inning played and when the match had been completed, the St. Croix's had crossed the home base 32 times compared to their opponent's six tallies.

It was a fine match enjoyed by a large crowd of cranks that had gathered around the field. The agreement among the crowd as well as the visiting club is that the Mitchell club was young and inexperienced, but they had the makings of a fine base ball club and within the next season would be the victors in more matches than the losers.

For the St. Croix's, both Mr. Arpi and Mr. Cagley tallied seven aces apiece. Both Mr. Robinson senior and junior tallied four tmies each with Mr. Ebnet and fill in player Zach tallying three times. Mr. Ernst tallied twice and Mr. Pfundstein and Mr. Peterson both had one ace apiece.
