The captain's official game account:

St. Croix's Victorious in last match of 2008

The St. Croix Base Ball Club held a match game of base ball with the Afton Red Socks at Pettit Park in Lake St. Croix Beach to finish the 2008 season.

The clubs met at the designated time and the St. Croix's won the toss of the coin and elected to strike first.

On this beautiful autumn day, the St. Croix's started out well, hitting the ball hard and to all reaches of the base ball diamond. The first four strikers reached base and tallied aces. With the end of the first inning, the St. Croix's led the match by the score of four to one.

The St. Croix's continued the heavy hitting in their second scoring seven more aces and the Afton Club also continued to hit well - scoring four more themselves. In the third inning the St. Croix's did some very heavy hitting and showed off some much needed ginger as they ran around the bases. After scoring another nine times, the score of the match after the third inning was the St. Croix Base Ball Club 20 and Afton 5.

Afton continued to strike the ball hard but right at the St. Croix fielders. The St. Croix's added six more aces over the course of the match and at the end of the contest the score stood with the St. Croix's 26 and Afton 5.

For the St. Croix's both Mr. Ebnet and Mr. Cagley tallied five aces, Mr. Lavigne tallied four times, Mr. Sjogren and Mr. Pfundstein tallied three aces and Mr. Wittrock, Mr. Peterson and Mr. Liberty tallied twice.
