Denmark Township - September 14, 2008
The captain's official game account:
St. Croix's defeated by Denmark Demons
For the third season in a row, the St. Croix Base Ball Club traveled to the southern part of Washington County to cross bats with the Denmark Township Demons.
The weather held off as the National Anthem was sung, the players took the field and the Umpire yelled, "Striker to the Line."
The St. Croix's took the field first and held the Demon's strong hitters to no aces tallied. The Demons returned the favor to the St. Croix's with some fine fielding which was exhibited by the Denmark Club all afternoon.
Both clubs tallied once in their second and the Demons continued their heavy hitting by tallying twice in their third, once in their fourth, and twice in their fifth.
The St. Croix's had a hard time cracking the young Demon club's defense. A few finely placed hits helped the St. Croix's tally once in their fourth and one more time in the fifth, which left the score at the St. Croix's 3, Demons 7.
In the seventh inning the Demons finished their scoring for the match by having three players cross home base. The St. Croix's tried to come back, but the defense of the Demon squad was too tough to crack, the St. Croix's only scored another two aces in their ninth.
The final score of the match was the Denmark Demons 10 and the St. Croix's 5. Congratulations were given to the Demon Club from the St. Croix's for their marked improvement over the past summer.
For the St. Croix's, Mr. Cagley tallied twice while Mr. Ebnet, Mr. Arpi and Mr. Peterson all tallied once.
Mr. Liberty eyes the pitch as he readies himself to swing.
Mr. Rose at the bat.
