The captain's official game account:

St. Croix's defeat Northfield on Independence Day

It was eleven score and eleven years ago that our founding fathers brought forth a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the promise that all people are created equal. It was with those ideals that the St. Croix Base Ball Club traveled to the fine community of Northfield to play a match game of ball against the Northfield Silver Stars.

The day was sunny and warm when the two vintage nines started the match. The Northfield club won the toss and sent the St. croix's to bat. Northfield has a strong defense and quickly shutout the St. Croix's in their first four innings.

The St. Croix's as well have a fine defense and made many spectacular plays in the field which held the strong hitting Northfield club without an ace in their first four innings as well.

The St. Croix's broke the scoreless tie in their fifth with some fine hitting which featured a long hit by Mr. Wittrock which scored two aces. Mr. Wittrock was tagged out at third base by some fine throwing of the Northfield outfielders. The St. Croix's tallied three times in the inning.

In the sixth inning the St. Croix's tallied two more aces and another three in the seventh. The Northfield club had one ace cross home plate in their seventh, eighth and ninth, but the St. Croix's continued fine striking and tallied another two in their eighth and three more in their ninth.

The final score of the match was the St. Croix's 13 and Northfield 3.

All the participants in the match will claim that the match was much closer than the score would suggest and the two clubs look forward to their next meeting on September 8th at the field near the Old Main building on the campus of St. Olaf in Northfield.

For the St. Croix's, Mr. Peterson had tallied three times, Mr. Sjogren, Mr. Kimball, Mr. Cagley and Mr. Wittr
ock tallied twice and Mr. Ebnet and Mr. Pfundstein each tallied one ace.
