Arlington: June 24, 2006 The captain's official game account: The St. Croix Base Ball Club traveled to the Minnesota hamlet of Arlington to face the Arlington A’s in a Match of vintage base ball. The storm clouds opened up and the sky’s filled with rain and hail, and so the match that was to be played was cancelled. The clouds and rain did pass and the St. Croix’s were still present at the field, the locals gathered a group of schoolboys and the picked nine from Arlington played a match against the St. Croix’s. A field was laid out near the stadium and the St. Croix’s were able to help the young men from Arlington understand how to play the game of base ball. The St. Croix’s were able to strike the sphere around the field, but the Arlington boys were also strong strikers and sent some fine balls out in the field. Although the scorecard showed the St. Croix’s as the victors, nine aces to six, the young men of Arlington enjoyed the match and all retreated to the stadium where a fine dinner awaited the hungry players. Another match game will be set in the near future at Arlington and we hope the same excitement the young boys had will transfer to their town club as well.
