Lake St. Croix Beach vs. Afton: September 18, 2005
The captain's official game account: St. Croix's victorious over the Afton Red Socks The third meeting of the year between the Afton nine and the St. Croix's took place in St. Croix Beach on Sunday September 18th. The Red Socks had a full squad while the St. Croix's barely made the nine required to play the match. Umpire Duane "Chairman" Thein began the match with the tossing of the coin to determine who was to strike first. The St. Croix's won the toss and elected to have the Afton nine strike first. The Afton club, known for their heavy hitting, took advantage of several muffs by the St. Croix defense and scored three aces in their first. The St. Croix's could not match that in their half of the inning and after one inning of play the Afton Club was leading by the score of 3 to 0. The St. Croix's came back in the second, and with the bases full of St. Croix's and two hands down, Deano Thilgen struck a mighty blow over the centerfielders head and two St. Croix's came in and scored making the score 3 to 2 in favor of Afton. The St. Croix's then continued their hitting and tallied 5 aces in their third, 4 aces in their fourth, 3 aces in their fifth and two in their sixth while the Afton Club could not tally any aces for the rest of the match. The final score being the St. Croix's 16 and the Afton Red Socks 3. Scoring for the St. Croixs were Patrick "Greenhorn" Pfundstein, Dan "Basher" Cagley, and Steven "Dude" Greenlow three aces each. Quentin "Rock" Wittrock scored two aces and Don "Pieso" Hammer, Brent "Skinny" Peterson, Jeremy "Crooks" Larsen, Erik "Sugar" Sjogren, and Neal "Devil Dog" Rose all scored one ace each. |
