The captain's official game account:

St. Croix's suffer defeat at the hands of the White Bear Town Team

On the anniversary of the birth of the state, the St. Croix Base Ball Club traveled the back roads to play a match game of ball against the strong White Bear Town Team.

The field was set up near the Town Hall and the local residents came out to enjoy the sunny afternoon weather as well as to watch base ball as it was meant to be played.

The St. Croix's lost the toss of the coin by umpire Mr. Thein and the White Bear Club captain sent the St. Croix's to bat. The St. Croix's proved to be strong hitters in their first with many fine base hits and good base running which in the end helped the club tally five aces. The inning was highlighted by a long three base hit by Mr. Sjogren which tallied two aces for the St. Croix's.

In their half of the first inning, the White Bear Club came out strong - with many long drives to the fields and the youth of the players on the White Bear Club showed in their speed around the bases. The White Bear Club tallied four aces in their first and after the end of one inning the St. Croix's had 5 aces and White Bear had 4.

The White Bear Club tallied once in their second to tie the score, the St. Croix's tallied once in their third to take a brief lead but the stronger hitting White Bear Club tallied twice in their third, and four times in their fourth and another three in their fifth. The St. Croix's only could tally twice in their fourth and after five innings the score stood White Bear 14 and St. Croix's 8.

One of the St. Croix's players, Mr. Robinson, injured himself and had to leave the match and another St. Croix player, Mr. Stafford, had to leave because of a family commitment, left the St. Croix bend nearly depleted. Even with such demoralizing events, the St. Croix's tallied twice in their seventh and another two in their ninth to bring the score within two. The White Bear Club tallied one more time in their ninth making the final score White Bear Town Team 15 and St. Croix's 12.

There were many fine plays on defense for the St. Croix's, many coming in the outfield by Mr. Cagley and Mr. Kimball. For the St. Croix's Mr. Ebnet and Mr. Cagley both tallied three aces; Mr. Kimball tallied twice and Mr. Robinson, Mr. Peterson, Mr. Sjogren and Mr. Arpi tallied once each accounting for the runs scored by the St. Croix's.
