St. Croix's plays up in Bruno

The St. Croix Base Ball Club, a vintage team that plays by the 1860 rules of base ball and sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society, traveled to the community of Bruno, Minnesota for the sixth consecutive year to play the Bruno Fearless Firemen.

The matches between the to clubs have always been close, but this year the St. Croix's scored 14 aces in the first four innings and defeated the Firemen by the score of 18 to 6.

For the St. Croix's, the leading player at the bat was Quentin "Rock" Wittrock, scoring five aces in six at bats. Scoring three aces each were Don "Pieso" Hammer, Jody "Sidewinder" Ebnet, and Dan "Basher" Cagley.

There were also many fine plays in the field by both clubs. For the Bruno Firemen, Captain Bruce "Plowboy" Clennon and by the many other on that club.

After the match was completed, the Bruno players invited the St. Croix's for a fine dinner and music at the fire hall. The new history book on the Bruno community was introduced and the authors were there to sign copies of the fine publication.
